Scribbling Drivel by Jeffrey ParrenI continually scribbled drivel
onto a piece of paper
until it finally made sense
which is to say the line
said absolutely nothing
yet sounded like it did.
This pattern erupted
as I found word organizations
that had no right being juxtaposed
yet they sounded like music.
The beat the rhythm
kept pace with my eagerness
to see where the nonsense took me
and it was like life in that way,
I am anxious to see the final result
yet the journey is usually unbearable.
As I kept up the composing
I realized what mattered most
sometimes
is the sound is as important
if not more so
than what the words
are actually saying.

Posted by Olivia Martin on 02/12/10 at 03:11 PM Here here! I LOVE this piece. Not only for the strength of your words, but the sentiment. Great write! |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 02/12/10 at 04:53 PM You know, I realize that this is actually quite true, both in the sound of the piece I am composing as it echoes through my grey matter -and the sound of typing that is tied closely to the creative process- for me, part of the accompaniment to my writing is the clack of keys on the keyboard -and I prefer an old model style where there is a definite emphasis when one hits the keys, as opposed to the flat, 'whisper' models that give me no aural satisfaction! |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 02/12/10 at 06:02 PM Brilliantly accurte synopsis. I have found this too in the many years I have been writing poetry. And yes sometimes with the right combination of sound and words, they make the best poems. Thanks for the reminder! :o) |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 02/18/10 at 03:52 PM ...jeff, the other day i saw you had posted, yet couldn't get to it for work...this is worth my getting back to...a delightfully FULL write, full of pathos and compassion but lent witha blaize faire, kind o' tone...absolutely love it, jeff. can't brag enough on this one, on you as a poet. |
