Long Chestnut Hair

by Ken Harnisch

She ensnared me
She with the long chestnut hair
That capricious breezes lifted every which way
Across her shoulders
And sometimes veiled her eyes

Trapped behind the glass of
A grocery store window I could only lean
On a long broom and watch her push it back,
Peeved at the gods who had thrown her
Careful brushings into a state of disarray

Telling her the effect was
Heart-stopping was no use.
She was shy inside the vault
And did not believe she possessed near the beauty
I would swear was nestled in her bones.
But I’d watch the boys and men steal glances
As they walked on by, and then, looking up at me,
Nod, knowing whom she restlessly awaited.

And I, who never understood
How I had been so blessed
Would tell her I’d be there
Soon, so very soon.
But she, who was impatient,
Would sweep the next flight of
Windblown hair
From across her face and look
Enchantingly annoyed.

"capricious breezes." That's something that's gonna stick with me for awhile. This is just another wave in the ocean of awesome that is your library, Ken.

So you WILL keep a lady waiting as long as you can view her standing outside, tempting you with her long chestnut hair getting toss'd in the breeze...I see how it is Ken. *grin*
