No More Valentine's Day (Hell)

by Joan Serratelli

He didn't believe her
when she said she would go
He didn't listen
to her plea for help
He didn't hear her
crying all night
He simply didn't love her
enough to fight.

He thought
she would always stay
He thought
she would be there
in the light of the day
and the dark of the night

He wasn't there
when it happened
He wasn't there
when she left
He wasn't there
when she decided to go

She would never know
how he loved her
She would never know
how much he grieved
She would never know
how intensely he cared

She thought
her parting was painless
She thought
that he would simply go on
without even a care

She wasn't there
to hear him crying
She wasn't there
to see his grief
She wasn't there
to hear his pleas.

She didn't believe him
when he told her to stay
She didn't listen
when he told her not to go
She didn't hear him
when he begged her to live
She simply didn't love him
enough to be saved

One of your best - really details how poorly we communicate sometimes, how we don't know how much someone really cares, we are so much in our own heads. You really nailed this one, Joan!

A powerful piece on love's tragedy. When 2 are in love they are bound to the same course. When 1 sails over the edge of the world, so too does the other. The suffering of one in this piece is unheard due to the suffering of the other. An excellent insight into the hurt that can spread through love's entanglement.

...joan, this is a curly Q french fry, a coiling tasty morsel of a life...and mylady, you say a lot, a lot more than's in these words...i love it, the juxtaposition of love/caring and blaze...good, good!
