tune in at eleven

by Maria Francesca

Tune in at eleven
We'll tell you the news
We'll glorify weather
and feed you your views

Who lies the least harmfully?
How should you vote?
We have all the answers -
Put down that remote!

Can oxygen kill you,
and are you defenseless?
Just give us a moment
and we'll scare you senseless!

Are terrorists planning
to blow you to heaven?
We haven't a clue,
but tune in at eleven!

Who's dating?
Who's breeding?
Who's splitting?
Who's gay?

Find out what
the self-professed insiders say!

Is the hottest new superstar falling apart?
Be the first one to know,
so you'll really look smart!

Will doctors save both
of the Siamese twins?
Did O.J. kill Micheal -
Wait -
This just in:

The world is still round
and the sun will still rise,
and although it's the evil we emphasize,

the truth is that
life goes on, twenty-four-seven,
whether or not
you tune in at eleven,

so turn off the T.V.
Put yourself into bed.
Rest your muscles and bones.
Rest your heart and your head.

It's a new day tomorrow -
it's trite, but it's true,
and good, bad or indifferent
it's all up to you.

Very nice wrie Maria. And beside, news today is more performance entertainment than news. When they read anyone's email, tweet, text, twit, or call regardless of their knowledge it is an opinion poll and not controled either. Buy a comic and get more news. I know it is make believe but so is what you see on TV. And they call it reality.

Wow! How perfectly poignant and true to life! Not only does this have teeth, but it's polished and so much fun to read. I hope this gets much more attention, maybe even POTD attention. Thanks so much for sharing, Maria.

Heard a rumor, the world is a wonderful place.

Excellent reminder of how much the news has become subjective as opposed to objective. The press no longer just reports, but makes the news, ehances stories through sensationalism and opinion. How many time did so and so go to the bathroom, who are they dating...who cares?!?!
