Faster than the speed of life

by Laura Doom

Not a moment to lose;
the world, in its wisdom
is spinning a doctrine.

Everlasting afterbirth
discharged across the universe,
and not a soul remotely in control.

Not that I give a brad,
laid out in my box of beliefs,
present in spirit, testing the proof.
Speed breaking, junk piling,
the occasional cut or juiceless joint
to overcook my brain;
a stain of sustenance
to mask sensory desperation.

No doubt I'll be late
much earlier than expected;
no point in keeping time
that can't be taken to the limit.

Though life limps lacklustred
to its tail, the paradox is not lost
when travelling in excess
of a hundred minutes per hour.

Tough to choose a favorite line here... but I think I'll go with "Everlasting afterbirth discharged across the universe."

Hah Vince stole my favourite line -actually that whole stanza is brilliant -this is a wonderfully crafted piece Laura -great imagery and metaphor -your word choice was impeccable!!

Your writing is like an eland, zipping through shrubbery and over mountains and fences that, if it t'were me, I might think barriers. I also love Vince's and Therese's chosen faves. Mine is:

No doubt I'll be late
much earlier than expected;
no point in keeping time
that can't be taken to the limit.

and how you swang it from the beginning, "Not a moment to lose" ;)

Laura, dear,....it is all your fault.I should be in bed but I have a touch of insomnia, especially after reading this, and I couldn't wait until the morning to tell you how brilliant this work shines forth. I ABSOLUTELY love this one! MOST definately going in my favorites collection. THANK YOU!.....and goodnight :)

Loved it all, but especially "the world... is spinning a doctrine."

lovely. I wish I could get so much juice out of a single hour. (btw, being so many people are picking favorite lines, I'll mark that final one as my own.)

So many great lines here indeed. I love 4th stanza though. And "the paradox is not lost when travelling in excess of a hundred minutes per hour." Brilliant. Just brilliant.
