Faster than the speed of life by Laura DoomNot a moment to lose;
the world, in its wisdom
is spinning a doctrine.
Everlasting afterbirth
discharged across the universe,
and not a soul remotely in control.
Not that I give a brad,
laid out in my box of beliefs,
present in spirit, testing the proof.
Speed breaking, junk piling,
the occasional cut or juiceless joint
to overcook my brain;
a stain of sustenance
to mask sensory desperation.
No doubt I'll be late
much earlier than expected;
no point in keeping time
that can't be taken to the limit.
Though life limps lacklustred
to its tail, the paradox is not lost
when travelling in excess
of a hundred minutes per hour. 01/20/2010 Posted on 01/20/2010 Copyright © 2024 Laura Doom

Posted by V. Blake on 01/20/10 at 10:06 PM Tough to choose a favorite line here... but I think I'll go with "Everlasting afterbirth discharged across the universe." |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/21/10 at 12:16 AM Hah Vince stole my favourite line -actually that whole stanza is brilliant -this is a wonderfully crafted piece Laura -great imagery and metaphor -your word choice was impeccable!! |
Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 01/21/10 at 12:47 AM Your writing is like an eland, zipping through shrubbery and over mountains and fences that, if it t'were me, I might think barriers. I also love Vince's and Therese's chosen faves. Mine is:
No doubt I'll be late
much earlier than expected;
no point in keeping time
that can't be taken to the limit.
and how you swang it from the beginning, "Not a moment to lose" ;)

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/21/10 at 04:52 PM Loved it all, but especially "the world... is spinning a doctrine." |
Posted by Jim Benz on 01/21/10 at 11:58 PM lovely. I wish I could get so much juice out of a single hour. (btw, being so many people are picking favorite lines, I'll mark that final one as my own.) |
Posted by Amie Golda on 01/22/10 at 04:51 AM So many great lines here indeed. I love 4th stanza though. And "the paradox is not lost
when travelling in excess
of a hundred minutes per hour." Brilliant. Just brilliant.
