God by George Hoernerour leaders
queens, kings
though they
have the position
the responsibility
if you will
to preserve the nation
beneath them
are layers of us
the police and military
to protect and serve
helping to guide us
in the Right direction
and important professionals
doctors, lawyers,
educators, clergymen
those we look up to, respect
whose knowledge and direction
we generally accept
and then the politicians
who can be any
of the above
they can be the best
but often are
the worst of us
for what ever the reason
they are all our leaders
we are the masses
and for the most part
they keep us content
within the limits
of their understanding
they do not like
revolutions or uprisings
they prefer stability
as do we
we each have
our little niche
our place in our world
some of us
don’t fit well
we have our aberrations
but we rarely revolt
we wake at our
appointed hour
we make our
appointed rounds
and to sleep dreaming
our wild dreams
or not
just as all of those
above us do daily
like ants, like us
we all function
much as the
society of ants
helping to maintain
the society
in our niche
oh yes, we
have Feelings
we have Goals
we Believe things
mostly thought up
by those above us
we think we are
a higher level
but we are not
unless in our
totality we
are God
with all
the beauty
and ugliness
a god would have

Posted by V. Blake on 01/17/10 at 11:31 PM Excellent work, George. I was fully waiting for this to go in a direction that it never took, and it came out all the better for that. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 01/18/10 at 12:42 AM I liked the hierarchical layering in this, the humbling comparison to ants, and the possibility at the end. Thank you! |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/19/10 at 08:33 PM The last stanza of this is what really prove to be so unutterably effective -I love that you bring in the human aspects of polytheism and allow for the beauty and the ugliness to be close to godliness. Very fine piece, George!! |

Posted by Rula Shin on 06/05/10 at 02:01 PM Yes, we are a great colony of ants. Indeed the heirarchy of positions is based upon conformity, desire, and dreams. As you so well put it, all of which are so limited, and yet the so called 'lesser' look to the so called 'greater' for all the answers. What to do, what not to do. What to think, what not to think, what to believe, what not to believe etc etc. Your summation is excellent, for how can there be a totality that is less than whole, mirrored after a race that is far less than fairly harmonious? Easy enough to conjure up a faith based on a concept of belief, but in the end what is knowable that is yet unknown? Only the self that projects outward creating that great, complex ant colony. Know the ant, cease to become an ant. Realize your are a fool, cease to become a fool. Here only one may find what is truly sacred. This is wonderful George. So glad I stopped here. Thanks :-) |
