Faded Smile

by Cerra Davis

Little girl standing on the ledge
Waiting for the next breeze to pass her by
Will it push her forward?
Tumbling to eternal quiet
She’s screaming out for love
Yet there’s always tomorrow, they say
Who will answer her screams?
Who will answer her cries in the night?
She’s standing on the ledge
Not wanting to step off
She wants someone to hold her
To tell her it is all going to be ok
Who’s going to answer her cry?
In the middle of the night
A little girl falls into the passing breeze
And he’s just too busy to notice
Her smile that faded.

Nice write Cerra and don't ever be afraid to cry. It comes to all of us who feel, think, etc. We accept it as part of life knowing without life there is no beauty, no love, and yes, no crying.

Poignant, but pointed. This poem is like a razorblade.

To me, the last three lines are beautiful in a written-sense -- the symbolism is fantastic. I believe we've all felt like this and sometimes still do. The desire to be chosen, appreciated, and even just noticed, is omnipresent in the human condition. Thanks for sharing, Cerra.

it would seem to me that cries would be answered by those familiar with the expression. hopefully by someone who will not tell you to stop crying, but rather permits each tear drop to find its level.
