Late Night Fiasco

by Deborah S Regan

Tonight I’m going to stay up late
With Johnny, Jay and Conan
It’s up to me, if I feel low- key
To stay up late and sleep in

When I was a kid, whatever I did
I wanted to stay up late
While I was in bed, dad watched Johnny and Ed
My parents thought it was great

But Johnny’s gone and Ed went home
And Jay became a stranger
Just Conan’s left and he’s bereft
Because his show’s in danger

In my heart, I think Conan’s too smart
To appeal to the mindless masses
His silliness is just a gift
To hide his neural assets

But Jay and Dave
Are just depraved enough to fit in
Their endless smarm with little charm
Keeps us jaywalkers tuned in

Dave is laughing all the while
He’s tapping his latest employee
But we don’t mind, because we find
A sense of misogynistic camaraderie

Poor NBC, they once brought us hits like the “A-Team”
Their game is down and no laughs are found
But now they know, “The Cosby Show” was 30 years ago
And there are other networks in town

If Conan falls because of network slobs,
At least Jimmy Fallon will be out of a job
