Tempus Perfectum

by Tony Whitaker

A meter in music
To feed my muse
Makes me dance
In my two left shoes

Kubrick’s Space Odyssey
With the Blue Danube
Or Radiohead playing
(Scotch Mist Version) Nude

The conductor takes the stand
Takes a bow to the crowd
Then takes a drive with the band
Drawing triangles with his hand

Recognized by all
The waltz at every ball
This one, two, three
Sticks in my craw

Hendrix Bold as Love
His life paid the toll
Still Manic Depression
Captures my soul

Author's Note: Tempus Perfectum is 3/4 time and a time signature in music that I find absolutely mesmerizing... Als, thanks to those who caught my mistake of mistakenly leaving this as "EXPLICIT". I am not one for details!

That's such a good opening stanza, such a perfect image to get this thing rolling.

I think this need not be marked as "Explicit." I hadn't thought much about it (as I'm not a musician) but as I know some of your references here, I can totally agree that it is a bit of a hypnotic meter. At any rate, the rhythm in this poem is great. You've got talent, sir.

I agree, not explicit (unless it is in code!) You've obviously caught the rhythm or meter of the music in reference.

Love the first two stanzas. I can't think of many more perfectly chosen pieces of music for a movie than Kubrick's choice of Blue Danube. I also like the two left shoes. That fits me perfectly. Your baton swings me all over the place from Strauss to Hendirx - your words echo the charming effects of music. Thanks, Tony.
