Rural Princes and Princesses by Rachel Bennettthey ain't no streetlights out here -
seems like balding trees and spindly men
were supposed to be enough.
they're not, and meanwhile we wait, arms raised,
ready to be stitched into this flannel patchwork mistake,
one compromised dream at a time. 01/01/2010 Author's Note: Rural Indiana is the worst.
Also, this is my first Poemuary entry!

Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/04/10 at 09:09 PM This is really stark and raw...I thoroughly enjoyed it -you put so much into so few lines and that's a real gift!!! |
Posted by Nanette Bellman on 01/04/10 at 11:50 PM I agree, that looking out the window and seeing nothing but naked branches is the worst. In your case, it made for divine inspiration. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 01/05/10 at 01:24 AM ...doll, you are one princess for sure...what a walk this set of words has...a jaunty bygawdness to it, your pen must be tired from carrying all that heaviness in such succinct wordage. a lovely gift indeed. |
