Three Nights by Leslie Ann EisenbergIn dreams between our next stolen minutes
your lips, satin cherry cotton candy
breathe secrets into me
The ocean scent of your skin tattoos my pores
Warm handprint on my heart
leaving the trail of your promises
Wait upon drought upon wait
I’m comforted by the memory of your gift,
Three nights of perfection in your arms
One
Blazing lights and bells lucky dice untamed you can’t lose
shiny jet plane buzzin’ into my room with
colorful stories best lines ever told,
your hearty laughter both cure and cup of coffee,
dang if you don’t sing yourself to sleep,
a ridiculous dent in the mattress as
I watch over you inventing my tomorrow
(time stop stay here always
as I savor your sinewy frame,
a tan mustang in temporary repose
moldintoyou lets out the dark,
covers thrown, your hot blood my furnace)
Two
Still you sleep, no need to race
I celebrate with new best friends
laughing at throwback cover songs
We spin, we dance again again
I’m asked to take another
chance, but eight floors up,
my peace, for once, waits for me
You awake to my embrace,
stumble your funny girl into the
shower, wash away the smoke,
tenderly blow-dry my hair as we sit
cross legged on the bed, the scratch of
your waggish grin tickles me to fits
Tuck me into you deepwidedeep
mind gone clean ‘til morning
Three
Snow blankets patio tables while
We dine fireside, red wine, rich food
suffuse with the pleasure of finally idle talk
Butterflies birthing, though the company is far from new
Then to da club, gee, did we inhale helium
Our giddy bodies learn to dance together
who knew we both love to people watch
Elated, we toast these discoveries in our ritual
bath, cocooned in each other and always
In the caress of sleep
We both did dream this same dream, the dream was Us
You towering over me in a black and gold tuxedo
Pearls button down my satin back, your agile fingers
lace gardenias through my auburn hair
The stars croon our wedding symphony,
Our banquet guests the comets scream, dance, and toast,
but you and I, we are done with words
Gazing at the constellations
Our Never Children holding hands
We delight at their shiny haloed smiles,
Our moon keeping watch over their chestnut curled heads
We earned three nights alone for three years
and we shined so bright in that
star twilight
You and I
One, two, three nights
Grace fell upon the pillows
Peace from interruption
Before the Sunday rain

Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 01/01/10 at 06:48 AM this is as poety, suavey and metaphory as it gets. this is pretty to the nth degree. one of those dreamer pieces that tackles all the sides of mush that there are. simmering. interesting little 3 series thing...i need to read a few more times, but the images here are like sugar on my brain. ooh la. |
