Home

marlboro lights and starry nights.

by Kimberly Bauer

I waltzed into this trial with blind eyes
The sweetest smile and naive ambition.
A cigarette and greygoose pressed to my lips
like a girl on a mission.

And then hit the recession.
The depression of all free things.
Then hit the identity of the one you hold above me.
that truth broke my pretty wings.

"the first cut is the deepest"
especially when the knife never leaves.
Pressed behind me not so gently
A reminder to never sleep .

I trust I can figure this life thing out
With high heels and stubborn purpose.
The sky will soon be everclear
I'll soon be flying once again.
