Early Morning Dream Come True

by Maude Curtis

As I lay here in the wee hours of morning,
there's a chill in the winter air.
I wrap my arms around you, snuggle close
and saver the warmth of your body.

Clinching my eyes shut to ward off the light,
I run my fingers across your furrowed brow,
down past the stubbled chin to your chest.
I carress your broad shoulders and once rock hard abs.

Your hard soldiers body now growing soft with age.
The paunch of a tummy that I love so much.
My fingers tangle in the soft hair further down,
as I continue with my memories of last night.

I inhale the scent of your cologne and my perfume
blending with the smell of our lovemaking.
The aroma of coffee drifts from the kitchen
and I snuggle deeper in the quilts to stay asleep.

I hear your deep breathing, the sound of your heart beating.
the dog yawning and stretching on the foot of the bed.
anxiously waiting for someone to wake up,
for soon he'll be wanting to go outside.

I fight to stay in my dream, not wanting to wake up
afraid that when I do I'll find myself alone in my bed.
Then I realize that I'm no longer dreaming
because I open my eyes and find you staring down at me.

After we rekindle the fire of last night,
I drift again back into a contended sleep,
and know that sometimes
Dreams do come true.
