Sacrifice by Tony WhitakerThere is this sage and sacred saying
“It is more blessed to give than receive”
Though it sounds so salient
Danger lies in the depths of this dogma
For it refers to sacrifice
Alas, sacrifice shouts surrender
Whether to another or, God forbid,
Your own inviolate values
Choose your chains with wisdom

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 12/06/09 at 07:17 PM People are born and are everywhere in chains. Some forge their own, link by link, others are fettered by the cruel and demeaning...no mater how we get there we do get there, yet for the mind no prison can stop up its thoughts, they remain unbounded. There, now I maybe wrote too much, but I think you hit it unerringly. Well done, Ponderous. Thanks. |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 12/06/09 at 07:40 PM I agree with Greg. I adore the last line- so true. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 12/06/09 at 07:58 PM ...hhhhaaa, i afraid to laugh...that last line is a rump kicker...love the leg-up so i can see into the compound of the pandoran existence we share in a few well-chosen words. kewl. |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 12/08/09 at 08:03 PM If it is the right surrender it can be unshackling actually! A philosophical tome to challenge the mind! Of course, St.Paul wrote about being "slaves" to sin or "slaves" to righteousness. The first leads to eternal death, the latter to eternal live. So indeed one must choose his chains very carefully! |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 12/17/09 at 04:41 PM Never have liked that word. Most of the years I didn't like it was because I didn't like giving up even a little of my self will. But the reason I don't like it now is that it smacks of doing stuff you don't choose to do. The preferable approach to your mind-awakening dilemma is to choose consciously, wisely, and with heart. Then there is really no sacrifice. Thanks for the wake-up call, Tony. |
