Today I Lit A Candle

by Joan Serratelli

Today I lit
a candle
for my father
and as I said the Kaddish,
I cried
He would have been 86 today

I looked up
to the heavens
and thought
how good it was
that he didn't live
to see
what I've become

He only saw
my virtues
he never saw my pain
he didn't live
long enough
to see
what happened to me

Today I lit
a candle
for my father
and cried
and wished that
he was here

Happy birthday Daddy!
and rest in peace
know that
I always loved you
and that
will never change

Happy Birthday and happy memories of your father. The love never changes and that is a good thing. Thank you, Joan.
