Travolta's Acid Trip by V. Blakedespite what Mr. Cruise has told you,
i, too, can eat planets.
and the stars are just thumbtacks
i use to keep the sky in place.
the crescent moon is actually a boomerang
that i shoot across the nighttime
just to fuck with the oceans.
sunrise is a crafty parlor trick
done with cigar smoke in my bathroom mirror.
volcanoes are oversized wine bottles.
and the horizon is just another cellar
i built to keep them organized.
science, by the way, is an elaborate web of strings
binding each of you to one another
to keep you all from flying.
and on a loosely-related note,
the equinox is really just the after-effect
of the last time that Tom and myself
rationed the world out evenly between us. 12/03/2009 Author's Note: Some silliness that I wrote last night.

I couldn't help but laugh and think, "much like the hair volumizers and wrinkle minimizers are meant to keep you all bound to the illusion of our youthful vitality."
A lovely tongue-in-cheek portrayal of hubris, Hollywood style!

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 12/03/09 at 10:43 PM I think you've captured a crafty arrogance here that too many celebs personify. Though sometimes by their live they reveal that fame means only being conspicuously miserable. Thanks.

Posted by Kris Mara on 12/03/09 at 11:33 PM seriously? this is incredible...so full of wit, I'm just stunned over here... I haven't had time to read much here recently...nor write as coherently as I might prefer...and this just makes a person want to throw their own pencils away and read you instead (if that makes sense). Love it. |
Posted by Jim Benz on 12/04/09 at 12:31 AM Silly, but interesting. I'm enjoying your stuff. |
Posted by Anita Mac on 12/04/09 at 04:25 AM Silliness is a great way to keep the juices flowing... Not that you seem to have trouble with that. Definitely a fun piece. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 12/04/09 at 04:43 PM ...had no idea you were being silly, a pretty tall order of satire, a lovely [cute-but meaningful write]...you do good work, vince. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/07/09 at 04:30 PM The silliness in this is liberating and your images are delightfully wicked. Thank you. |
Posted by Frankie Sanchez on 12/08/09 at 03:51 AM silliness? forget that. this is incredible. "and the stars are just thumbtacks / i use to keep the sky in place." are you kidding me? from that line on, this piece, in all of it's sarcasm, offers a very clever and substantial perspective. "binding each of you to one another / to keep you all from flying." there are so many great lines/moments in this piece. so maybe the title is a bit silly or maybe the tom reference is offbit, but what those things give way to here is something brilliantly poetic. good read.

a hot tongued attitude tied into excess of imagination.

Posted by Michael Defries on 01/20/10 at 09:39 AM No really, I get it..."just to .... with the oceans." Is the best line ever! I laughed whole heartedly here. Plus, really, I get it. Nice work! |
