Here There Are Lions by Rachel BennettAs lions counting gazelles
(Rounding numbers upwards)
Before whirlwinds of the west,
We wait-
We conquer.
With sinewy toned morals, we ignore
The anxious pleas of foreigners;
With dewclaw paws numb to empathy
From tranquil crawling distraction
We bat away hungry jaws.
Our manes are spun of privilege,
Our tails balance empires. 11/22/2009 Posted on 11/23/2009 Copyright © 2026 Rachel Bennett

| Posted by George Hoerner on 11/23/09 at 01:37 AM Isn't that the truth Rachel? We play at being world leaders and yet what we do is based upon opportunities to make a great appearance. As if we would be martyrs until someone reached for the nails and the cross and then we'd shout that's not fair. Good write lady. |
