The Devil Wears Gucci

by S. Pelham Flood

Fifth Av, New York—shopper’s orgy: Gucci,
Dolce, Luis, and Dior, Armani,
Prada, and Saks; there’s enough class to raise
the kindest nostrils to the air in praise
of highly priced cashmere and underwear.

The Devil himself prances along the street;
Chanel sunglasses frame his face like sheets
of ice and red Gucci covers his hell-
burnt skin. Even Satan can’t escape the cruel,
cold eyes of fashion’s chosen followers:

Our gay brethren—the eyes of fashion, start
shimmy and shaking ass-first from school,
arms wrapped around Satan, to spend their cash
and scream advice to herds of less-fantastics.

Love the "sheets of ice" line, and the fact that Satan gets some fashion thumb's-downs also (tooo funny), but especially that last line - "and scream advice to herds of less-fantastics". I adore the sassy in this.
