i believe

by Charlie Morgan

while joe cramer is busy looking-up the word 'prolific';
i'm busy over here counting the seconds as they go by.

gnats, these ideas of mine; as fast as they're in your face,
just as fast, they're on their way to another future time.

i, a listless walker with my past in tow, it is heavy baggage;
filled with baby-toes of happiness, yet, all in all. mmmmnaa?

greet me with a smile as i erase ill times, using time itself.
so fast i've grown; yesterday morning i was but a teenager.

this morning i am as Gregor in a Franz Kafka novel; a nightmare.
tomorrow i will be white-knuckled holding my yawl's mizzenmast.

i will pull the grass over me; decline all comments to others,
and slowly grow-down; probably stop at yesterday, or the day before.

a desert is so beautiful in it's holding-hidden an oasis, life.
as is this book of life i treasure; just have to read it to the end.

i believe in happy endings.

Author's Note: note: my nod to joe cramer is offered with much respect, i am most certain he doesn't need to look up that word.

... you are awesome! As always, thanks for your astute commentary, I greatly appreciate it... I just them all them poems against the wall, y'all... and see what will stick... for some arcane rationale, I just can't quit! Thanks again...

Good write Charlie but I think time only stops for us and who knows, maybe, just maybe it'll catch us again the next time around. But I want to be a fly or gnat or something that doesn't have so long to live so there'll be less time to think about things.

Love how this poem turns on itself. Leading us toward stopping at the day before yesterday but enticing us to read our own ending...very profound. Like this one.

You are a kaleidoscope. listless walker, Gregor, pulling the grass over. If you keep all of this talk up, I might actually start getting a sense of humor about death. You seem to wag your finger at aging and refusing to let the bastard grind you down. I love it... and your creative soul, buddy.
