The five long years that
Have passed since we were
Friends.

I feel like an old man,
Propping up the bar while
I wait for the increasingly
Unlikely return of
A long lost love.

I need something to express
The feeling of having
A small yet significant
Gap in my life. I’ve spent
Years being unable to
Do it myself.

So, play me a slow song;
One that will calm me
And slow my breathing
To make the next
Five years pass more quickly
Than the first.
