A moment in time

by Ann Mills

Here we sit enjoying a moment in time, as birds on the fence vie for the best spot that only they know, eating the seed left for our amusement rather than their nourishment. The slam of a door upstairs scatters them on the wing.

Molly watches and waits; she knows they'll be back.

We can hear them trilling shrilly, chirping and calling to one another through the screen door as the cool weather falls into the patio and overflows into our home. A peaceful morning to be, to exist, to enjoy.

Pepper did not find her magic dish this morning, no more luck than any other morning, so comes to give my idle hands something more to do than hover over this keyboard, trying in vain to capture the moment.

Children run outside, laughing and calling to one another, and I resume the mundane.

Molly watches and waits.

Author's Note: I have to question if I am still in Texas. This is beautiful fall weather.

You paint a peaceful scene and make me feel guilty for bitching about the rain. I need to just stop and enjoy it, let fall be fall. Thanks for the reflection and the moments in your day.
