believing in daydreams by Charlie Morgani'll squinch my eyes shut;
and darkness reigns as i
carry my daydream to bed.
i'm running but can't move;
stalled, i wonder about this.
dangerous daydream at night,
cover my head with a sheet,
i hear the dream knocking;
never will i let it in.
i cry and squirm til morning;
when once again the dream
will be dressed in jeans.
and once again we can be friends.
until the dusk of evening, which
introduces me to one more night,
of fear of the unknown. 10/05/2009 Posted on 10/05/2009 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

Posted by Maude Curtis on 10/06/09 at 01:21 AM I guess we all have dreams that haunt us, whether it be day dreams or night dreams. We just have to keep dreaming.
Posted by A. Paige White on 10/06/09 at 02:48 AM It's a wonderful write to tell us just enough to know we don't know for sure if this daydream is adream or awake... Very suggestively enigmatic, Chaz.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 10/06/09 at 05:07 AM Oh, Charles, you SO have the heart of a 19 year old (I use the word "heart" knowing that most dudes' hearts are in THEIR genes...heheh). Sorry. I don't know what in the world's got into me today. Love ya!!
Posted by Glenn Currier on 10/06/09 at 05:30 AM Your poem beautifully captures that strange state of experiencing fear and other unconscious terrors in dreams and sleep and then carrying its smoky trail with us in waking hours - breaking into consciousness at various moments during the day. I know well of what you speak in that last line. Thanks for giving it voice, my friend.
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 10/06/09 at 02:02 PM You express what most of us adult males refuse to do. We all have those "dreams" that occasionally negatively impact our sleep and our waking hours. You've written a universal experience I think.
