To My Mummy

by Michael Smith

To my one and only Mummy,
whom let me grow in her tummy,
though my body hast set sail,
my love for you will never fail.
My soul is ever entertwined with yours;
our love is spread across the shores.
Our footprints together left in the sand;
we travel each our journeys hand in hand.

Dearest Mum, I know my thought will never leave you.
When you miss me, know I miss you too.
You make me so proud Mum, you do so much,
though Dad may not always recognise it as such.
Both you and I know what we endure,
to make our hearts whole, to make us pure.
My dear Mum, you need not ever despair;
look within your heart and I am there.

Well, I began reading thinking this was a Halloween poem, but I was very wrong. I cannot tell if the child was born and grew to adulthood or was lost before birth. The memory is poignant and the bond between mother and son is described so well. Thank you.

And with each finding and each loss in life, they say we will become more than before. I wouldn't know the course to set...Maybe the secret to survival is given only on a "need-to-know" basis. I hope your heart will rest at ease for this little lamb. Much strength to you. Thanks.
