This Book

by Jeffrey Parren

These darkest days
are filled with unsettled events
that now have a new light
shed upon the truth,
yet I cannot forget
the anguish that continued
as the times unfolded
so now I am left
torn and tattered
like the pages out of
a favorite book
meanings far reaching
through life's tangents.

The words have nearly
vanished from the worn pages
but I don't want a new book,
being attached to this
but knowing better days have passed
I am lost within memories
of the words mouthed
and all that has happened.

Crawling into a new book
even with the same words
perhaps a similar cover
will not replace
the sentiments
and the heart-felt glances
I have bestowed upon this book.

The times that we shared
can never be duplicated
so now I step onward
without that thing
I have grown accustomed to
being by my side
regretting every step I make,
wondering if right will ever
feel the way it did,
with this book.

fantastic write, sometimes we get used to something, like a security blanket and nothing else makes us feel the same
