The Lion Headed Dragon Loves His Treasure Most of All by Ryan NardiIf we melted down all the gold
in Saint Peter's Basilica,
and stripped it of its precious stones,
there'd be enough to build
a whole village of golden houses
with ruby door bell buttons
and polished marbled mouses.
And the Pope could spend his nights
in a cardboard box, beaneath the light
of the blue sign on a pay-phone,
down a street he'd never know was there
from his high window and office chair.

| Posted by Tony Whitaker on 09/14/11 at 09:34 AM Ooooh, BURN!!!! Brilliant insight into what religion really is. That's why I am a spiritual, rather than religious, person. This makes me realize I am a New Testament kinda guy!! |
| Posted by Ben Evans on 09/17/11 at 08:10 AM I love your clarity of image and ability to draw pictures with your words. I had to double-check at mouses which seemed a bit forced for the rhyme, and I think door-bell works better with a hyphen, but apart from this, I was honestly blown away by this poem. |
