Superhero Cape by Cerra Davis5 am wake up call
stumbling down the hall
frantically chasing the pieces of me
reaching in darkness for understanding
her frantic voice on the line
trying to make sense of you being gone
I fly into my super hero suit
wrangling everyone together
to rescue the walking wounded
the words echoing inside my mind
as we fly to say one last good-bye
walking in the chilling hollowness
seeing your rumpled frame
never you, not now
she fell to her knees
with the same wavering voice
a noise echoed of what she used to be
her soul left with you on my superhero cape
you still echo in my mind
living only in the remnants of memories
flying with wings like never before
only now do you truly soar. 09/09/2009 Posted on 09/09/2009 Copyright © 2025 Cerra Davis

Posted by Jared Fladeland on 09/09/09 at 06:34 PM I'm really digging the two images put together here. Great juxtaposition. Enjoyed reading

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 09/10/09 at 07:59 PM Hey!!! Welcome to Pathetic. This is GREAT. My only suggestion is that it might be easier for the reader perspective-wise if the "she, me, you" was more consistent. It might make it easier to hear the "voice" of this wonderful work!

Posted by Tony Whitaker on 09/14/09 at 07:05 AM Alison is one of the better poets, only my opinion of course, on this site. But I have no issue with your use of pronouns and see the ethereal quality of this moving masterpiece for spirits having flown! Excellent and welcome to pathetic Cerra!
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 09/18/09 at 02:12 AM I like the idea of the superhero cape, the call to action and friends coming through for each other.
