it's September again. by Maria Francescait's September again -
the beginning of the real year;
the beginning of the school year
by which I used to measure my life.
the beginning of the life year
for my September baby.
the beginning of the Christmas spending spiral.
it's September again
and I find myself pulling out my yearly yardstick
and coming up years and years short,
but it's September again
and since it's the beginning
of the only sort of year that matters
I suppose I can see it
as a new year -
newly born and innocent of the past year's sins
and indiscretions.
so I'm breaking out the party dress and high heels
and pouring myself a glass of bubbly.
because it's September again.
