Timeless Tears

by Clara Mae Gregory

when the news of your demise
overcame me by surprise
it rode in on a light beam
through timelessness grown thin
it inverted my insides out
emptied your image all about
for so many years it has been
since I'd seen your crescent grin
and my shadow absorbed the sorrow
and darkened colors in the ray
my soul wept for your brightness
as if your death was yesterday

I like the sense of loss I took out of reading this. Very nicely done.

This is a worthy heartfelt poem, a little weaker than some of your other work, but still strong in how it comes honestly from the heart...not contrived.

Author's Note: repost. this relates to my poem "happy hurts". it is about my emotions when i learned of my first boyfriend's death at 21. i did't find out until many years later, but the effect was as if it had just happened.

What a great poem. It artfully captures the strength and passion of that first love. The rhymes pull me in like the aroma of a hot cherry pie on the window sill. But the sadness is palpable. Well done, indeed.

This is so accurately written of such a shock to the heart. "As if your death was yesterday" softly lands with a splash of depth. You rhyme so well that I don't even notice it until moments after reading. I'm a fan of rhyming, such as many poets and musicians from past and present use. And you're good at this.
