REUNION

by James Edwards

oh see how it rings
and how unseeingly i pick it up
how my lips part and how his move
and something bites my naked leg

its a disbelief
a scene from a narrative four months past
while i waited and we were apart
while i watched and he partied and danced

a hope almost given up
a life almost lived
or so i thought
so i think

and he jeers, i fumble to find
smiles, swears and sarcasm coming alive
i have reasons to doubt but his voice
speaks words of a different kind
a thought beyond
feelings to my mind

whatever we do whatever we speak
clouded, shrouded or even bleak
the distance makes it worse
worse when we are distant
in body in mind
when we are weak

yes, we do make a choice
coz it makes us
while you propose superficial
i suppose am free

nicely done and expressed in human terms.
