love's no. 1 killer by Charlie Morganthere'll be no headlines;
no extras, no MSNBC report.
no reporting on local news.
and still it swallows us all.
like kudzu it creeps, silently;
crossing all mankind boundaries.
it creeps into the tiniest gaps
of ego; a chain's weakest link.
the reachable cure of nothingness:
the salve, a daily dose of Narcissism.
ahhhh. now that's better.
the world's as it should be. 08/20/2009 Posted on 08/20/2009 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

Posted by George Hoerner on 08/21/09 at 01:32 AM Good write Charlie but I still think the biggest killer of love is silence. Those words that might start a significant conversation and maybe just maybe make people understand how they really feel about each other or not.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 08/21/09 at 04:12 PM I think right up there in the top 5 of love's biggest killers has got to be secrets, but then, I guess that would fall into George's category of "silence". Hmmmmmm.
Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/25/09 at 03:56 PM Well, I was gonna say that I liked the fourth stanza the best, but then I reread your poem and now I can't decide. Poor old Narcissus - must have been quite a looker to be so in love with that image. On the other hand he might have just been good at self delusion - like the rest of humanity. Interesting challenge finding that healthy space between self love and narcissism - and then mix in love of others and it gets REAL blurry and confusing. I also like the way you set this up as the no-news story. Another goody Chaz.
