IT'S REALLY UNBELIEVABLE by W. Mahlon PurdinMy persistence in doing
The wrong thing
Is really unbelievable.
Despite everything, including
Clear signs of destruction
And disability and impending
Ruin, I go right on
Doing the completely wrong
Thing, vaulting over obstacles
That would have stopped
A lesser person.
It's really unbelievable:
That despite all the signs
That point in a better direction
Where a positive outcome is
At least possible,
I race down the wrong path
Like a dog chasing a car.
Why? Even now, immersed in
Effects, suffering, I can't
Explain my enthusiasm
To do it all over again.
It's really unbelievable. 10/02/1986 Posted on 08/11/2009 Copyright © 2026 W. Mahlon Purdin

| Posted by A. Paige White on 08/11/09 at 09:59 PM At least you know you don't make this admission alone. Some of us want to chase Pontiacs, some Fords, some Volkswagons... but I think most of us can read you the tag number of our last "catch" before we do it again. Great stuff. |

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 08/11/09 at 11:31 PM I like how part of you can step back from the other and be astounded at a behavior you repeat. A lesson to be had until learned? One wonders. Your self exasperation is well expressed. |
