Whistling Fire/ anniversary by Kathleen Wilsonthe interesting arm of the olive tree
leans an elbow on the garden wall
it's a happy symbiosis
the tree in its leaning has made an arch
over the stone entrance to the garden
the branch leans on the wall on either side
squirrels use it as a bridge over the gate
with flourish of hand the branch
spreads fingers of green olive leaves in welcome
the wall familiar solid serene tolerant accepting
the olive with its beautiful scars distinctive turning
were married in this garden
he the open wall enhanced
and I the olive lean entranced
to make a graceful closure

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 08/05/09 at 10:30 PM How beautiful you've delivered this gracious poem. I love the theme of olive branches. I can see the/your arm leaning into all bridgelike, and the strength of its emotional muscle and resolve, all in a graceful gracious swoop.
Grace grace grace is strong. |

Posted by George Hoerner on 08/06/09 at 01:48 PM Yes Kathleen, a wonderful write. It is so gentle as you and the words reach out as does the tree to the wall. We all need something to get us through the day/night, even a tree. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 08/11/09 at 11:27 PM Such a intertwining expression of the two of you. It is delightful and gives a sense of the strength of your union - wall and branch and marriage. Thank you and happy anniversary! |
