Day of Odd Days

by James Zealy

On a day of odd days
When impressions
Misguide sensory perception

We on happenstance
Found surprises in sensitivity
Whose attributes have no gender

From that intriguing beginning
Began a discourse of us
Alike and unlike

Views agreed to disagree
Challenging debates
Pugnacious defenses

Passionate waves of words
Intellectual coalesce
And intimate congruence

Create a sense of understanding
And denial all at once
Of what is true

Four simple letters, L O V E
Have entered despite our intent
And I for one am glad it did

Those simple letters evoke fear
Transmit terror
Encapsulate panic

Except when it is understood
And for once I do
At last I do

I remember that odd day. Love that is understood and not mistreated, is the best gift of all- a gift I cherish, Kee.

Excellent linguistics...poetics James. A fun read despite its serious subject.
