Here I Am

by Michael Smith

I shall conceal myself from the world no longer.

"Here I am; feel free to take note" -

initially uttered with selfish intentions;
regretfully heard upon my swan song;

an evolution of self,
from whisper to roar.

Materialized by encircling necessity and
absconded upon its departure,
My Presence Is.

Not every decision,
so wisely chosen.
Not every transition,
in forward motion.

Nevertheless,
prepare thyself;

class has begun.

I suspect we all screamed "ME" as we dropped from between our mother’s legs or were ripped from her belly by some unknown surgeon. But some of us still carry that stamped on our forehead, only a few growing weary of staring at our belly button. The write remains a good way to announce your return.

A new beginning, indeed, or even a mantra for every morning. "Here I am; what do I need to learn next?" Welcome back to class. ~M
