July's Twenty-Second Day by Glenn CurrierRed Dodge Dart v-8
Ford pickup and big blue Olds
Geo Prism and Plymouth mistake
my life in cars unfolds.
Yellowstone and Yosemite park
Grand Canyon, Whitney and Crater Lakes
spontaneous Texarcana lark
sunsets in Carnival wakes.
Since my birthday’s in July
school’s out – we were on a trip
how the summers zipped by
on the road, or plane or big white ship.
Bones ache upon my rising
muscles speak when I stoop
but I find it quite surprising
now and then I want to whoop.
Just over Leo into Cancer
it’s July’s twenty second day
a singer, a writer, but no dancer
my life’s been a grand buffet. 07/22/2009 Author's Note: A little ditty for the day :-)
