Demon's Corral by Clara Mae Gregory
A sprite deleted the loving letters
and somehow, deleted your poems.
It put up some ugly spiteful fences
to keep me here at home.
The sprite was right-
The setting was wrong
when along came the night
where Love didn't belong.
Left are only ghostly letters
and files of phantom poems.
You will always mend
your spiteful fences
so I can never again roam
unbroken into the night
under the future's flight
above the past now gone.

Posted by A. Paige White on 07/21/09 at 04:10 PM I have to say, your poem truly lives up to the title, which is a great lead in! Beatifully done. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/21/09 at 07:43 PM I thought it very clever the way you mixed the rhymed words sprite and spite - and alerted us to the light and the darkness in our lives and in ourselves. Great write! |
Posted by Christel Crews on 07/23/09 at 02:09 AM this has great imagery and the use of word play makes it fun to read, but i hope all is well |
Posted by Mike Loftis on 07/23/09 at 02:26 PM I found this to be very sad but very well done. I love visiting your library. |
