A First

He looked so clean, perfect almost
a never before seen seriousness
handsome and mature
a first

we had all waited to see him grow up
Everyone came
No one would miss this moment
his first

oh there were others
other important times
they had missed always knowing
there would be more time

They looked serious also
a response to the importance of the day
somber almost a never before seen quiet
a first

all together no fighting
serious and well groomed
a first
they had all been waiting too

to see him
grow up

No one would miss this moment
There would never be another
not like this time
he looked handsome so grown up
his suit a perfect fit
a first
They had all been waiting
to see him
grow up

Who knew he could die first

nothing could be this important
there would be just this time
a first
and last chance to say goodbye

...maria howard i love you for one more reason...i am behind your eye on this one and too, your heart...i feel the same way watching life include death in it's deal...good write, pulls at me.

I've just got to ditto Chaz's comment. This is one of those stop you in your tracks poems. Especially for me this morning. We saw the unbelievable line of cars on the highway last night of people paying respects to a local athletic legend gone before his time by some apparently bad choices. Gives me the shivers. Great writing Maria. It's wonderful to see you posting again.

This is utterly - fantastically brilliant and I am ashamed to rate even at that level because it is beyond rating and it is beyond the understanding of any but the pristine souls and compassionate ones ... I hope to be one of them some day. You are one of them now. WOW! BRAVO!!!
