You Are, I Am.

by Melissa Arel

That Your eyes would turn upon me; this insignificant soul among millions
This breakable heart – frail and lowly.
What a humbling feeling to know that I matter to a Master, a Creator.

Nothing escapes Your attention –
The flutter of a hummingbirds wings.. a leaf falling from a tree,
A breeze blowing in the field.

How marvelous You are. How small I am.
But You still call me Your own.

Even when I am lost among the crowds of people – You are beside me.
Even when I neglect to pray, You hear my aching cries. My innermost longings.

I am but a speck on this earth; a particle of dust
But You know my name and You wait for me.

My spirit is a fragrance to Your senses.
My heart is a delicate flower in Your hand.
You smile at the very mention of my name.

And yet I falter.

This flesh and bone are unworthy, for my life is but a breath.
Oh that you would breathe me in deeply...

Author's Note: I guess this is more of a prayer than a poem. Either way, its my first posting in a very VERY long time. This is just where I am at this moment in my life. I've never been one to hide my thoughts or my frailties, so here I am exposed. Open and weak.

It is far from weakness to understand ones frailities so well, Mel. A prayer or a poem, or both, this is sublime.

"Fraility thy name is human" to paraphrase Shakespeare. Making oneself vulnerable before God is a great step forward. Our strength is in Him not of ourselves! Great poem.
