elephant girl and her love

by Kathleen Wilson

he is the full moon for me
I jump off the rat

dance like an elephant
with my hope chest
jewel-eyes and belly

he is the 3/4 moon for me
I am a pen a spoon

broken off
that fills us
both in

he is the half-moon for me
I hold him over me

arch of protection
I tickle with my ganesha arms
he spends his time smiling

he is the boat of the moon for me
I climb into him

peel slivers of light
drop old bones
into the dark

then we disappear
haul in the anchor
of night float free

my bowl of sweets
on the back of the moon

A lovely moon meandering!

I loved this read from bottom to top as much as from top to bottom. Your style always makes me wonder if LSD was ever a part of your teenage "trips"! Seriously, you are unique in that you write poems which may be read over and over, the reader garners something new each time.

The exploration of the facets-cycles-phases of relationship glows into my night, making me think I should haul in the anchor and float free into the full moon night - even if she is but a waxing crescent and I a waning one. Lovely poem.

You've taken the moon to new heights, Kathabela. I especially like the metaphoric comparison you've drawn between your love and the ominous orb. Each phase plied into an unsuspecting adventure befitting a beat poets dream. I don't know who writes your scripts, honey, but I want the doctor's name.
