Immortal Song

by Tony Whitaker

I’ve felt the sun shine
I’ve seen the rain fall
I’ve felt how love grows
I’ve seen how hate breaks

I’ve felt so much love
I’ve seen the pain I’ve caused
I’ve felt the love of God
I’ve seen the “shock and awe”

I’ve felt the bliss
in my first child’s birth
I’ve seen the hurt
in my best friend’s death

Now as I look back
At all I’ve felt and seen
I often ask myself,
“What does it all mean?”

Yes, life is short
No, it won’t be long
When we all wake up
In that immortal song

I loved this Tony, the sum parts of a life in a nutshell, all the relevant portions right here in the list. I don't know what it all means either, I only know that here I am, in this moment, maybe in the next...

Your poem sums up the same things I've felt. Interesting how the view changes the older we get....from 1954.

What I am happy about is your taking the time and creative energy and sharing it with us. I sometimes say that I am glad I have lived this long. It is in my later years that I have come to cherish and accept all the light and darkness I have encountered on the journey. You express it so beautiful and with large humanity. Thanks Tony.
