Klept-O by Jon-Jacob F DealIf I had known that it would be the last time,
I would have stolen your electric toothbrush--
The only thing that gets you off.
You would have hunted it for days,
First in all the usual haunts:
Your panty drawer,
Beneath the bed,
Between the mattress and the wall;
Then, with increasing desperation,
You'd have turned the whole place upside-down.
And there it would be,
In my closet or on a shelf,
Gathering dust, the two of us
Performing our functions
By simply being where you aren't.
An amusedly complicit look would pass
Between our soft, bristled faces
As if to say,
"Oh, you beautiful, blue-eyed
Bitch.
How does it feel to want?" 06/27/2009

Posted by Clara Mae Gregory on 06/28/09 at 08:30 PM Wow. This is an awesome expression of this subject. Normally, I don't care for profanity in poetry unless it is used just right. In this case, I think it was used perfectly and in just the right place for emphasis. The ending "punch line" of course, is perfect. |
