I Will Miss Touch

by Alison McKenzie

Moving softly forward
Not sure of what I want,
Who I want,
If I will ever choose
To want another again.

I look forward to my freedom
Riding the whims of my mind,
Embracing my unknown
With this ferocious thirst -

The ashrams calling me,
The road with its allure,
The trails and paths
Beckoning,
The siren of discovery.

I want to taste the void,
Suffer the healthy deprivation
Of material comforts,
Even flesh to flesh.

I will miss touch,
But not as much as
I've missed him already.
Being starved of
The future I once thought
We shared.

Moving gently forward,
Taking ginger steps, alone,
Careful not to lose my balance,
Careful not to lose my heart.

Thanks for sharing this stirring journey of the heart. The poem speaks powerfully of the ambivalence in broken relationships and the ability to arise from the ashes to create.

I'm struck by the positivity of your resolve through it all in these words...it's a great and unique perspective to behold...
