Of Sin and Shadow

by V. Blake

Among the ruins of the youth
Between the chaos and the truth
A cry rings out as heaven tries
To calm the hate that cracks the skies
But forty years of tears and flood
Have not cleansed those who drowned in blood
Who in perdition would behold
The seven avenged sevenfold
So bleed we will, and bleed we ought
And we, the angels God forgot
Will set fire to the crown of thorns
And twist our halos into horns

Two acts that will, as darkness warns
Bind our souls to worldly shores

Where we will kill without remorse
Those that walked the righteous course
Whose black and blueprints deemed it fit
To watch us writhe within this pit
Where agony and pain unveil
That apathy and hate prevail
Over those who were alive to see
These fragments of our purity
Which scar the surface of this land
Like tally marks on God’s Left Hand
One for every death doled out
To Hell’s discreetly dark devout

Who cast the shadows of the Doubt
Over the men we deified

Upon the ground where saviors died
Between adored and crucified
Where hymns that praise the past regime
Are drowned to death in banshee scream
And from whose wail, we each will learn
Degrees to which our God will burn
And when He’s dead and charred and black
We’ll stab each other in the back
And all the flames that forge the knife
Will mark the end of human life
What dreams may come will nightmares be
Of dwelling here eternally

Under heaven’s burned debris
From whence our souls shall not depart

Some faceless demon will impart
The guide to tearing love apart
In shattered sky and boiling sea
Atop scorched earth and within me
The alchemy of hope to pain
Is writ upon a viral strain
And at our darkest side’s desire
Disease consumes the world entire
As one by one we die away
And by the thousands we decay
Infernal kings will here reside
‘Till hearts collapse and stars collide

Didn't scare me, but I found it a well written, thought provoking retelling of fallen angels.

PS: The choice of words and their rhyming patterns remind me of some old Black Sabbeth songs.

Nicely done, The flow and steady progression of tension sits nicely. Keep up the good work. Debbie
