Bread Alone by Jon-Jacob F DealShe frowned as I paid
The bill. I smiled.
I love feeding you, I said.
Why? She asked.
Because it makes me feel good to fulfill a need, I replied.
But what I was really saying was,
I love feeding you because
I love you.
And of all your many yearnings,
(some of which I will never be able to satisfy)
To provide for your body
The very fuel of life
Gives me great pleasure.
And years from now,
Our bread long since broken
Once you've decided you've had your fill of me,
I'll look back on these days when,
While you ate your heart out over a boy,
I silently fed you(,) my love. 06/20/2009 Posted on 06/20/2009 Copyright © 2024 Jon-Jacob F Deal
