Bewilderment by Brian Francis
What is it you just said
it makes no sense to me?
It sounds
as though there should
be meaning,
but the words
seem to fight for attention
rather than work together
to convey your intent.
What did you mean
with this complex construction?
It leaves me lost
as though in a fog;
a morphemic haze,
grasping
at some unknown idea
which is deftly avoiding me.
Did you toss your words upon a page
and shuffle them about
Or are you missing the point of language—
the expression of idea…

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 06/07/09 at 03:05 PM I don't know, sometimes I suppose it does end up incomprehensible to others, but since I mostly write to get it off my chest, it's ok with me when I don't really gain an audience. Plus, I'll bet you could always ask questions! |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 06/08/09 at 02:35 PM ...words, words, words...it's a wonder anything's ever been built, well, the tower of Babel...and we're still there! ex. love---i love my black silverado, BUT i love my grandson...hummmmm, one word TWO DISTINCT meanings...well written, heavy concept. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/08/09 at 10:33 PM Simple but well worded expression of frustration at the self-indulgence of some poets. Seems sometimes one has to wade through ten poems like the one you've described to get a good one. |
