She is on the Verge of Something by Ken HarnischShe is on the verge
Of Something.
I am not in position to
Help or Ask
Or even Wonder Why.
I know the pain of separation:
I mastered its nuances a long, long
Time before we met.
Maybe my life was all preparation
For this, another parting;
This one without tears,
At least those wept openly
I can still mutter epithets
At the whimsies that
Would take her, while
Praying to another God
That He could do me the favor
Of letting her stay around
It’s not so selfish
A thought
If you know her
Like I do.

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 05/14/09 at 07:24 PM Wow. That is something, to allow it to unfold and feel the powerlessness of not knowing what's coming. *sending you a hug* and kudos. |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 05/14/09 at 07:33 PM I always like the idea of being open to the great unknown. This poem expresses that sentiment with breathtaking clarity and poetic strength. It's phenomenal. |
Posted by Sandy M. Humphrey on 05/14/09 at 08:26 PM Insight and empathy for the person you write for and then you think of yourself and ask for more time, I believe that is poetic and just and thanks for letting us into your circle with this writing. smh |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/18/09 at 01:48 PM Aptly catures the coming and going of others into our lives, especially lovers, Ken. And a subtle reminder that we always gain something in the process, even if it means losing that special someone later on. |
