Letter To My Mother by Joan SerratelliDear Ma
it's been a long time
since we talked
and alot has happened
that you should know
The kids are grown
and their kids are 2
Your great grandchildren
look like their fathers
but I can see you in them
Their smiles
their speech
their actions
I marvel at nature
and genetics
when I look
in their faces
I only see you
and Dad
I'm the same
if not a little better
new medications
have really helped
But you know that
I'm sure
because you're always
looking down
at me
I can feel it
I speak to your last picture
everyday
and cry
I miss you so much
you'll never know
just how much
I truly loved you
Dear Ma
you would have turned
84 the day
after Mother's Day
it's not fair
that you're gone
and I'm still here
but life does go on
that's what you
taught me
You were smart
and did the best
you could
and taught me
to be
strong
but it's hard
Dear Ma
all I really want
is to wish you
a Happy Mother's Day
and Birthday
I will remember
to light
a candle for you
In the end
the only thing
that is important
is to remember
Dear Ma
I love you

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 05/08/09 at 06:08 PM I feel the longing and the loss, but I sense, I feel, a bit of your heart lifted up in the remembering here. Fine write. Thanks.
Posted by Julie Adams on 05/08/09 at 06:58 PM a beautiful letter poem, the language is conversational and still so intimate...well done, how proud she must be...I bet she blows kisses between the stanzas! Hugs, jewels

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/08/09 at 11:31 PM I like how you have joined the generations together in this. I suspect your mom is smiling at this one with a big grin.
