summer rehearsal

by Julie Adams

under the rehearsal sun of any day in July,
an earthsong rises, the cool waves speak and sigh—
both smooth and frothy along the bare April shore,
like a big conch, they pour healing salt and sound memories
into a hungry ear—attune to the elements
how deafening nature becomes
how grateful I grow
how patient
how quiet
how peaceful
inside
listen to the crashing
of a thousand waves,
a thousand days and nights,
a thousand cranes take flight,
how many wishes are left swirling
like sawgrass in the afternoon sea breeze

I love the scent of wet canvas. And when it nourishes the every sense as do the words of this wondrous poem ... one can only dance with the beauty of it.

I love the whole idea of a rehearsal in the scene you set up, the sound and motion, and the seaside giving one fine stage for it all. The last two lines are so fine!

The ocean is soothing, abundant with life, and when in quiet isolation makes its own music that speaks its own tranquil song. I liked this a lot Jules

Yes, those first few summer like days really have impact. I particularly like the final four lines of this piece.

Just beautiful, Julie. A sea spray of quiet hope.
