Sitting Here by Joan SerratelliI'm just sitting here
my eyes focused
not on the tv,
but rather on the computer
and (of course)
a cigarette pack
"WARNING"
it says
"SMOKING IS ADDICTIVE"
yeah, like I didn't
know that
My cell phone
and house phone
are both by my side
I'm the only one up
to receive phone calls
My neck really hurts
it's rainning
and windy
I have things to do
my kid and her baby
are coming later
tonight
I need to go out
to buy her some things
I want to buy my granddaughter
a toy or 2 (or 3)
I need to buy
a card
some half and half
would be nice
but I cannot drive,
so I have to hold
tight
until my husband
gets up
and takes me
first to the bank
then onto the drugstore
to buy my granddaughter
a doll
I'm just hoping
that she doesn't call
and tell me
that she isn't coming
he weather is lousy
and the drive is long
My grandson
will be here at 1
so we'll have to
hustle to get everything
done

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 04/03/09 at 07:29 PM I like the descriptiveness of this Joan, how you create a certain tension in what may or may not happen, coupled with your physical weakness. Spiritually, a very strong poem, touching all the bases, and in the process our buttons of empathy. |
