poets invading by Mary Frances Spencer
we infiltrated another
elementary school
weapons
locked loaded
shooting ideas
bombs overhead
pencils in hand
the enemy
blank lined sheets
white paper
crying out for mercy
as the young
students scribbled
unleashed
their
poetic volley
word by word
we left
creative wreckage
and maybe some bits
of inspiration
floating in the dust
04/02/2009 Author's Note: I visited a local elementary school today with a group of poets and we each worked with a class! What an interesting challenge and experience. MFS

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 04/03/09 at 02:27 PM I like how this puts a refreshingly light spin on such a dark topic. Well done! |
